What Can You Expect an Archaeological Surveyor to Do on Your Property?

Blog

If you own a property and want to know more about it, then you could be thinking about hiring an archaeological surveyor to come out and perform their services. You might know that these are the professionals who you are supposed to count on when you want to know more about the history of a property and how it might have been used in the past. What you might not know, however, is what to expect from the professionals who come out and provide these services. Although different archaeological surveyors do things a little differently — and although different properties are sometimes handled differently — these are some of the things you should be able to expect from one of these professionals.

Gather Information About the Property

What many people don't realise is that many archaeological surveyors start doing their work before they ever arrive at a property. This is because they will typically do their research beforehand. This helps them plan how they are going to survey the property and gives them an idea of what to expect and look for. This means that they might look at any property surveys that might have been done on the property in the past. They might do their research about the general area and the property itself to get an idea of the history of the area, such as whether or not the area is known for being a previous home to indigenous people. Naturally, more research will need to be done both during and after the archaeological survey, but the research should begin before the archaeological surveyor ever visits your property for the first time.

Perform Excavation and Digging

One thing you should be prepared for is excavation and digging on your property when an archaeological surveyor is doing their job. They might hire professionals to come in with excavation equipment that will be used for digging below the earth's surface to look for artifacts. Then, they might use shovels and hand tools to search through the dirt themselves.

Collect Samples

You might find that an archaeological surveyor will collect multiple samples from your property while they are working. They might collect artifacts that they find themselves, and they might collect soil samples as well. Then, they can perform further testing and research on the samples that they have collected.

As you can see, when you hire archaeological survey services to come and help you with your property, you can expect them to do a variety of different things. This can help them and you get a better understanding of the history of your property.

Being a helpful consultant

I love getting into a company and helping them turn around their business. If a business is not profitable, no one will end up having a job. We like to give the workers a voice in the company because a lot of the time the great ideas already exist in companies, they just haven't had a chance to get these ideas to the bosses. This site has a lot of the ideas and techniques that we use when we go into a company, and you can try them out in your own business. Hopefully you'll be able to optimise your business too.
